The Gospel According to the Disillusioned
Brethren, gather ye in the halls of public scrutiny, for today we speak not of saints, but of those cloaked in the vestments of power, preach equity and inclusion while practicing evasion. Let us open the Book of Misconduct Revelations and read from the chapter of Rayner, she who paid unto Caesar less than his due.
First Reading: The Gospel of Miscalculation
"And lo, she said unto the nation: 'I did not try to dodge any tax.'" It’s for my children she cried”. Yet verily the stamp duty, sacred tithe of property, was rendered in diminished measure. A clerical error and misadvise she quoth. Yet verily I say unto you it is written, ignorance of the law is no absolution, it shall not save thee,
Second Reading: The Ethics According to Starmer
Sir Keir of the Soft Spine, hath stood by her side, even as the foundation trembles. Is this cowardice dressed in compassion they cried? And so he hath summoned the high ethics adviser to give judgment, yet the altar of accountability remains silent and unlit
Third Reading: The Lamentations of the Press
"Three abodes, zero excuses," cryeth the tabloids. The Daily Mail has sayeth unto he with no idea, thou art spineless., a coward of the first water! The Express call that she be cast down. The Sun, prophet of big chests , declareth her excuses as chaff in the wind.
Reflection: The Hollow of Hypocrisy
Lest we forget she is not only second highest in the land but steward of housing. And again stands before us clouded in hypocrisy. What message doth this carry unto the common tenant, the first-time buyer, the citizen who pays their dues in full? That the law is selective for the anointed, rigid for the rest?
Benediction: A Call to Righteous Indignation
Go forth ye citizens and witness. Let not your quietude be mistaken for consent. For every corruption unchallenged is silent complicity. If she be spared the walk of shame, then let her know, we the people - were not fooled.
